Ingredients

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp Instant dry yeast
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 egg room temp

For serving

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • flaky salt optional

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, melted butter sugar and egg. Mix until combined. Pour in 1 cup of flour at a time and salt.
  • Using a stand mixer attach the dough hook and knead beginning at a low speed then increase to medium. Knead for about 7-10 minutes or until the dough no longer sticks to the bowl. you can also do this by hand, it will just take a bit of elbow grease.
  • Transfer the dough to a well floured surface and knead the dough for 2-3 more minutes until a smooth ball. Then add to a well oiled bowl and cover with a bowl cover and warm towel. Place in a warm place for 1 hour for the dough to double in size.
  • Once the dough doubles, punch the dough to release the gas then transfer to a lightly floured surface. Cut the dough in half then into even sized sections.
  • Begin rolling the sections into dough balls. Place the dough balls and cover. Allow them to rise another 30-45 minutes.
  • While they rise, preheat the oven to 375°F degree oven and bake for 25 minutes and golden.
  • Remove from the oven and brush with melted butter and top with flaky salt, if desired.
  • Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

Milk temperature should be about 110°F. Warm to touch but not hot. If you think it’s too hot/warm allow it to cool.
Rising time will vary depending on how cold your home is. I like to place mine in the oven, with the oven light on.
